American Brownie Recipe
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 4 oz semisweet or bittersweet chocolate
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Toffee bits (optional, for topping)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease the bottom and sides of an 8-inch square baking pan.
- Prepare the Brownie Mixture:
- In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and chocolate, stirring occasionally until smooth.
- Stir in the sugar.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix in the vanilla extract.
- Combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir this mixture into the chocolate mixture until well combined.
- Bake the Brownies:
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove from the oven and immediately top with toffee bits if desired.
- Cool and Cut:
- Wrap the pan tightly in foil and allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, remove the foil and cut the brownies into squares.
